Admissions Criteria

It may be helpful to know the criteria by which our Admissions Committee will evaluate your application.

 

I. Spiritual Requirements

Applicants must be able to articulate a commitment to Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour and demonstrate a sense of call to full-time Christian leadership and gifts that would qualify him or her for the ordained or lay ministry.

 

II. Academic Requirements

Applicants must have completed a Bachelor’s Degree or demonstrate that he or she has sufficient written, oral and theological skills required for studying at AST.

III. Ministry Requirements

 

Applicants must be able to demonstrate gifts (especially in leadership, teaching, equipping, and pastoral care) exercised in a body / congregation / church, be affirmed by that body / congregation / church, and acknowledged by the leader(s).  Applicants should also be able to demonstrate the ability to articulate a goal (however tentative it may be at present) for training in ministry at AST.

IV. Ecclesiastical Requirements

 

Applicants must, from whatever theological or denominational background, be willing to live, worship and study as part of the AST community which is in the Episcopal / Anglican tradition.  Applicants must have the ability to work creatively and graciously with other Christians whose viewpoints may not necessarily coincide with one’s own.

 

V. Financial Requirements

Applicants must understand the financial responsibility of studying at AST and present a plan for providing the necessary funds to study at AST.

 

VI. Other Requirements

Applicants must show evidence of responsibility in the area of family and personal relations.  Whether single, divorced, married, remarried or widowed, there should be evidence of stable commitment to the sanctity of the marriage covenant between a man and a woman, and abstinence in the single state.  Applicants should also show the support of the applicants spouse and family (if applicable) and the affirmation by them of the applicants gifts and calling in ministry.
